The RULE of the OHR


This is the RULE of the
ORDER OF THE HOLY ROSE (OHR)

which is firmly based on the path of love and understanding of Our Lord and King Jesus Christ.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

1. The Professed Brother or Sister is authorized to use the abbreviations Br or Sr before their name (Brothers or Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose, OHR, after their name), and to use the term of Friar (male only), Brother, Sister (f.ex. Sr Eliora Anat, OHR).

2. We are an Anglican-Catholic Order open to lay-members and to clergy alike. We are following the Anglo-Catholic tradition and our bishop is Ralph Napierski.

Anyone can join us, whether married, single or divorced, whatever their former religious background, but who privately take up practices of austerity, recite some liturgical Office, and wear some symbol of their devotion.

3. Membership

There are three basic levels of membership:

* Outer circle: Members, who join the circle like a 'club' like on myspace, facebook and other online communities of the OHR and who help and take part in some projects.

* Middle circle: Members, who join the circle for a special time period.

* Inner circle: Members, who dedicate their life to the order.

*Middle Circle Membership : Members are discerning their calling to the Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose and will begin to implement the Rule of the Order in their daily lives, whatever their background. They will be in regular contact with the Mother Superior or the Director of Novices during this discernment process.

* Inner circle: Members, who dedicate their lives to the order. The members can decide to enter the vowed life with the Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR). During this time, the Brother or Sister will study more deeply the teachings of the Church, as well as the lives and ministries of saints. The Brother or Sister is also expected to live by the Rule of the Order. They will be living the Rule, and continue to study the faith. They will have implemented some form of ministry in their community or parish, and are expected to nurture a strong prayer life, as well as Bible study.

4. Purpose

The purpose of the Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) is to make Our Lord and King Jesus Christ known and loved everywhere by following His example and that of our patron saints, as we live out our Christian journey and to lead an to live by example to prepare for His return unto us and to prepare the path for the heavenly kingdom on earth.

We serve our local community as well as in all ways that the Holy Spirit guides us towards. The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose are a Catholic blended community of laity and clergy. We are bound together for the purpose of fellowship, prayer, support, encouragement, and spiritual growth and development. We have a shared desire to know more about religious life whatever our background, be it in marriage, as a single/divorced or single-parent and/or as a member of clergy. We explore together, how to live our spirituality in our daily lives in this world.
The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) seek to be faithful to the prayer of Jesus Christ in John 17, that 'they may all be one'. We seek to live a full Catholic spirituality, to love and to provide spiritual and social services to a hurting and troubled world. The care and education the Order of the Holy Rose gives to the public is open to those of any religious belief or none.

The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) seek those people called to serve God and His creation in a variety of ways. Since we do not live in a monastery, we live our chosen Catholic charisms in the daily life of the world. We have vocations as mothers, housewives, pensioners, artists, doctors, lawyers, musicians, scientists, authors, poets, hospice caregivers, and many other backgrounds. We each have active forms of ministry and exercise our spiritual gifts and talents for free as the Lord enables us to do so.

The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose are open to all practicing Anglo-Catholics, whether married and single or divorced, male or female, lay person or clergy.

5. A Life of Spiritual Growth in Jesus Christ

Spiritual Growth in Jesus Christ is ongoing, putting on the mind of Jesus Christ to 'Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel' (Mark 1:15).

6. Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose are to live converted to God, in a loving, Christ-like relationship with each other.

Unless communities of Brothers and Sisters are voluntarily formed, according to Church law and following this rule, the Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) are living in their own settings. We try to simplify and sanctify our live, with the grace of the Holy Spirit, in the following of this rule.

7. Formation of Groups

After a vote has been taken, a letter of intention of a group formation will be sent to the Mother Superior. It will contain the Signature of the first two members that are still involved, certifying the vote results in the case of the Circle, or the signatures of the first six in the case of a community.

8. There are three types of groups formations:

- Isolated Members: One member

- Circle: Two to five members

- Community: Six or more members

9. Holiness

Christ calls of us to holiness. The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) put forth increased efforts in answering that call to the formation of greater holiness, as we travel Christ's path of spiritual discipline with our brothers and sisters.

10. The Bible

The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) aim to lead their lives as the living word of Jesus Christ.

11. Habit

Full habits are optional and only worn by members of the middle and inner circle.
The standard habit for these brothers and sisters will consist of the following:

* White tunic with or without hood (design will be provided)
* a small red rose embroidered on the tunic (desing/pattern will be provided)
* a red and a green cord with three knots: red for the Passion of Christ, the fire of Pentecost, the Sacred Heart, St Mary Magdalene; green: the colour of life and the triumph of life over death; three knots: representing the Holy Trinity; the cords are made and provided by the OHR only.
* Celtic Cross

(Note) Members can either make their own tunic by using the pattern provided or order it by providing the appropriate linnen. Please, contact us for more information.

Wearing of the habit is appropriate but optional at all functions of the Order of the Holy Rose, at your own church with the permission of the priest/pastor, at monastic meetings of any kind, working in ministry, and retreats - or at any time we are representing the Order of the Holy Rose in an official capacity. One may also choose to wear the habit at home.

12. Remember that the wearing of the habit is only OPTIONAL. As long as clothing is in good taste and the crucifix is being worn, the dress code of members will be entirely dependent on their professional life situation.

13. Brothers and Sisters should be moderate in eating and drinking.

14. The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Holy Rose (OHR) are strongly recommended to pay tithe to their local church. The tithe may be divided into portions, some to the church and some to its ministries and other to its projects.

FREDERIC BARBAROSSA SENDS THE FOLLOWING LETTER

Barbarossa sends the following letter
regarding a papal matter: There is an

them drown their own hope in the melted floods
of their tears, when their delusion and obsession
with their every man-made crown disappears under
their newly awakening conscience and fears
in the face of God, as Moses is also awaiting him
with his very own holy truth's lightning rod, as
contrary to many a secret society church hierarchy's
belief, Jesus cried with His family in unspeakable grief
about what most of His apostles have done, annihilating
even almost all fish and hope, including the sole and the cod.
Do they not know, have they after all forgotten, that only
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the only one from God
begotten?! And He does from now on like the brightest
diamond even in the deepest darkness glow and with Him
His family, who never fails to sing even in a simple
blind and trusting belief to God's harkness.

So, Jesus ist ein bisschen aus der Uebung mit der deutschen
Sprache, und fragt daher, woher alle diese Titel stammen,
die man anscheinend vergeben hat selbst an goldene Rinder
Ammen und die auf dem Kerbholz zu haben scheinen eine
unendliche Blutlache, und das in seinem Namen - bezeichnet
man so eine Herrscherspezies 'Seine Tollitaet', denn die
Kategorien fuer eine himmlische auf Erden agierende Majestaet
ist bestimmt nicht aeusserlich mit Pomp ausgestattet und
mit roten Teppichen ausgemattet.

Jesus ist wirklich disorientiert, denn er hat als Priester unter
allen seinen Schafen bisher seinen Dienst versehen, und da
er extreme bescheiden ist, blieb er weitestgehend ungesehen,
und alle seine guten Taten ebenfalls, und er wurde trotzdem
von der Kirchenhierarchie auf allen Seiten mitsamt seiner
inkarnierten Familie verflucht und mit allen moeglichen Anschuldigungen
und Pleiten und Rufmorden und Mordanschlaegen fast
gemacht ungeschehen.

Aber diejenigen, die hinter diesen Attacken stecken,
die werden nun ihrem Gewissen nicht mehr entgehen,
denn Gott und der Himmel und alle heiligen Seelen
haben auch alles in ihrem Herzen gesehen, und die
zuenden an immer nur mit wahrer Liebe fuer Gott
und ohne Suende an ihre Kerzen.

Also, es ist Zeit fuer die gesamte Kirchenhierarchie
von oben bis unten zu schauen von ihrem Elfenbeinturm,
den sie auch noch von Elephanten geklaut haben aufs Eis,
wo Jesus auf sie in der Kaelte wartet, und zu schlittern
und in Furcht vor Gott zu zittern - und das ist keine Bitte
mehr, sondern ein letztes vaeterliches Geheiss von hoechster
Gnade und Fuerbitte von Maria Magdalena, denn sie hat immer
noch die unverbesserliche Hoffnung und Liebe fuer jede Seele,
dass selbst die fiesesten Daemonen und selbst die arglistigste
und uebelste Daemonin und Sirene selber ihr Herz durchforsten
und nach der kleinsten Suende durchstechen, ohne das Moses
ueber ihnen muss seinen Stab fuer immer brechen.

Denn wer nicht mit Christus ist und unserer Familie Seiner
Heiligen Rose, denn nur Jesus ist the Holy Rose, bud and blossom,
und nicht so irgendein verzauberter Opossum, der ist gegen Ihn und
gegen Gott und gegen Seine Heilige Familie, einschliesslich Maria
Magdalena, Jacob and Zara-Zarai. Die Show der selbsternannten

Und Ihr werdet schon sehen, wie sich unsere Familie tut im Handumdrehen
durch Jesus und Maria Magdalena und unsere Kinder und alle unsere
Freunde vermehren. Denn wir verlangen nichts als Gott Dank zu geben
fuer unser heiliges Geschenk von unserer Liebe und unserem ewigen
Leben, und wir benehmen uns nie mit Absicht selbst gegen unsere Feinde
nicht daneben, sondern wir gehen fuer alle die Extra-Meile, und das
schliesst auch ein diese Extra-Zeile, und ich rate Euch dringend, von nun
an die Wahrheit zu lehren und keine Anti-Christ Inkantationen mehr zu
verbreiten, auch nicht singend in Eurer jeden Gemeinde.

Also, Jesus wartet auf dem Eis, fuer Ihn ist das kein Problem, aber er
kann es auch einfach schmelzen lassen, denn er gab selbst einem Eisbahnerfinder
mal irgendwann im Schlaf die Idee fuer so ein System. Und er kann auch gehen
auf Stelzen und in die unbegehbarsten Gebiete und Hoehen und kann heilen jedes
Oedem, wenn es in Gottes Wille ist, aber er wird nie gutheissen eine Pille, die Leben
nimmt statt gibt, und er zieht auch jeden Arzt zur Verantwortung und jede Schwester
und Hebamme, die ihre Heilgaben verwenden, um fuer den Teufel auf Hufen zu traben,
und die sich an den Schmerzen der Tortur laben.

So, Jesus wartet nicht mehr lange, denn seine Schafherden, die zu Ihm gefuehrt werden
von seinen wahren Aposteln stehen fuer seine Rueckkehr schon bereit und Schlange.
Aber keine Bange, wir beissen nicht und wir reissen auch nicht die Woelfe, denn wir
wissen ja laengst, dass es nie Einstimmigkeit und Harmonie gab, nicht einmal bei den
alten Aegyptern, bei der Nummer Zwoelfe.

Und Ihr muesst Euch in Canossa darauf einstellen zu antworten auf alle Beschwerden
von den zurueckgekehrten Schafen, die nicht mehr von Euch getoetet werden koennen,
wenn sie schlafen oder als verirrte und verwirrte Sandkastenmajestaeten und Tollitaeten
erwachen, und sich auf Euer Kommando ueber Gott und die Welt lustig machen. Moses
hat eine ellenlange Liste selbst hoeher als jede Skipiste, und nicht erst seit Barbarossa,
dessen Brief Ihr ja auch nie beantwortet, aber sehr wohl gelesen und danach gehandelt
habt, und in unserer Familie sich noch jetzt jeder an Eurer Gier in dieser Angelegenheit
labt. Auch darueber wird Jesus mit Euch sprechen, also zieht Euch warm an, denn Jesus
steht nun bereit mit Moses und Aaron und Miriam ist auch dabei aus der Ferne, denn die
sieht schon in Euren Augen und in ihren Traeumen, wer von Euch luegt und betruegt, und
wer ihre Mutter mal belogen hat in Werne.

Es wird ein interessanter Tanz auf dem Eis, aber die Wahrheit, die nimmt nun ihren
lebendigen Lauf, denn der Teufel hat begonnen mit seinem Seelenausverkauf und beginnt
alle seine Deals an Gott zurueckzugeben, denn seine Zeit und sein Zweck ist beendet und
Eure Pseudo-Macht nun einfach in den Sand oder im Schmelzeis versickert und verrinnt.
Es ist Zeit, dass sich auch der groesste Suender und Halbwahrheiten- und Luegenverkuender
auf Erden auf seine herzerfuellte Reue besinnt. Und nun eine sehr historische und fuer manche
systolische apostolische Woche beginnt, die nur endet in Heilung und Auferstehung, wenn Ihr
offenlegt Eure Seelen, denn wer wahrhaft glaeubig ist, kann schon durch den Heiligen Wind
riechen, wenn er in pompoeser Theatergarderobe vor sich hat stinkende boesartige Garneelen.

Ich bete fuer alle Seelen, die wahrhaftig auf Jesus Weg gehen, und mit uns leben in der Wahrheit und in Heiligkeit schon auf Erden. Denn die Waerme vom Herzen kommt nur aus

And if you any longer deny Him His rightful Name and position you are subject you your own mind's and soul's abolition, as God will now sadly but in a way for the holy truth's sake gladly cut off every spiritual fake and Christ has lost all of His inhibition as once too often did you threaten Him as a priest with excommunication, when He wanted to rejoin His one and only family but now it is you, who will loose your life for eternity, as you never intended to manifest with Him and for God His one holy nation. But maybe you still humbly repent that for example you received the ashen cross only under your hat instead on your forehead - another sign that is not really benign but rather the fear of the retribution of some bat or church rat for not honouring their bloody contribution. You never gave about Christ's loss truly in your heart a toss, otherwise you would have put wrong right especially in lands of Irish moss.

mit der sie uns heraushalten wollten mitsamt unserer Wahrheit
aus den von Deinem Vater weitergegebenen lebende Wort,
und sie haben vergiftet auch mit ihrer Gier und geklont and jedem
Ort die von Gott abgedrifteten uneinigen Nationen, und einmal
zu oft haben sie selbst im Upper Room Deinen Vater hinter seinem
Ruecken entthront, und mich haben sie schon damals wie gestern
und heute nur mit Hochverrat und Mordversuchen fuer meine
Treue zu Gott und zu Jesus entlohnt.

Die wollen alle selber Goetter spielen und alle wollen immer nur
gegen den Kern von Gottes Schoepfung, unsere heilige Familie
toedlich zielen, da sie die Menschen nur als Sklaven benutzen
wollen und sie einfach wieder klonen, um aus ihnen herauszuholen
was immer sie koennen an Gewinn-Schroepfung. Die spritzen uns
Luft in die Venen ohne zu erroeten, und sie helfen niemandem, der
durch ihr Verschulden wurde alleingelassen in hoechsten Seelennoeten.
Und dass die nicht wie wir auch den Kranken und Alten, wenn sie es
nicht mehr selber koennen, den wunden Po abputzen, ist auch
sonnenklar.

Moses, mein geliebter Sohn, go for it - take to task and rip off their

pompous man-made titles and ceremonies and all the wrong books written by
crooks in their bookshelves, and who
is practically  instead of sharing all for free, what they
have received freely a money and property hoarder is not dwelling within Jesus'
heavenly kingdom on earth's borders. Moses, my beloved Son, you are not only

uns in Gottes allerheiligsten Raeume. Aber der Altarraum, der ist fuer die Maenner in der Familie reserviert,
waehrend wir Frauen geniessen zu helfen, wo immer es ausserhalb des Allerheiligsten pressiert. Und in der
Ehe ist ja eh klar, dass der Mann die Frau mit seinem Koerper anbetet, und sie ihm gehorcht, wie ein heiliger
Mann mit Gottes Hilfe sein Rippenstueck liebevollst dressiert, und gemeinsam dienen sie Gott und in ihrer
Familie und Gemeinschaft mag zwar Armut herrschen, aber niemand wird jemals ausgesetzt beissendem Spott,
auch wenn dazu einladen sollte so mancher Heuchlers Bankrott. Wir sind da fuer alle, die uns wirklich brauchen,
und uns macht es auch nichts aus, in die Anonymitaet abzutauchen, denn wir wollen keinen Bekanntheitsstatus
noch Beruehmtheit noch Beweis von irgendeinem Schweiss mit Zertifikat von Authentizitaet. Wir wollen einfach
leben in Heiligkeit, und nach unserem Tode werden wir eh weiterhelfen ohne Selbstherrlichkeit.

Die Erde wird nur weiterleben, wenn alle Menschen nach Heiligkeit streben und ihr Leben selbstlos fuer Gott
und ihre Freunde geben. Moses, mein geliebter Sohn, und ich schicke Dir auch all unsere Liebe von James John,
den Du ja auch kennst als El Eljon. Und Gottes Liebe und grenzenlose Freude ist unser wahrer Lohn.'

His most holy and blessed Names, and spread your weed
with unholy dames and worshipped the golden calf and cow,
and tried to make Mary Magdala as Christ's eternal
wife look like a Babylonian whore, and wiped her babies
out from your books, ye crooks, and teamed up
with Noemi, and put Oved into her arms, so that like her
son he looks.

Sounds familiar somehow,
even  before and after in every of our incarnations you
danced after the same lame tune of your flawed incantations
– and you even do not hesitate
anymore to join forces with the pagans, who also abuse their

His was the first Renaissance monarch in Scotland but was attacked for being more interested in such unmanly pursuits as music than hunting, riding and leading his kingdom into war. In fact the artistic legacy of his reign is slight, especially when compared to that of his successors, James IV and James V. Such evidence as there is consists of portrait coins produced during his reign, displaying the king in three-quarter profile, and wearing an imperial crown, the Trinity Altarpiece by Hugo van der Goes, which was probably not commissioned by the king, and an unusual hexagonal chapel at Restalrig near Edinburgh, perhaps inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

He was born to James II of Scotland and Mary of Guelders. His exact date and place of birth have been a matter of debate — although not since the 1950s. Claims were made that he was born in May 1452, or 10 or 20 July 1451. The place of birth was either Stirling Castle or the Castle of St Andrews, depending on the year. His most recent biographer, the historian Norman Macdougall, argued strongly for late May 1452 at St Andrews, Fife. He succeeded his father, James II on 3 August 1460, and was crowned at Kelso Abbey, Roxburghshire a week later.
During his childhood, the government was led by three successive factions, led respectively by the king's mother, Mary of Guelders (1460–1463) (who briefly secured the return of the burgh of Berwick to Scotland), James Kennedy, Bishop of St Andrews and Gilbert, Lord Kennedy (1463–1466), and Robert, Lord Boyd (1466–1469).

[edit] Relation to the Boyd faction

The Boyd faction made itself unpopular, especially with the king, by self-aggrandisement. Lord Boyd's son, Thomas, was made Earl of Arran and married to the king's sister, Mary. However, the family successfully negotiated the king's marriage to Margaret of Denmark, daughter of Christian I of Denmark in 1469, in the process ending the 'Norwegian annual' fee owed to Denmark for the Western Isles, and receiving Orkney and Shetland (theoretically only as a temporary measure to cover Margaret's dowry). Thus Scotland in 1470 reached its greatest ever territorial extent, when James permanently annexed the islands to the crown.

James married Margaret of Denmark in July 1469 at Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh. The marriage produced three sons:

• James Stewart, Duke of Ross
• John Stewart, Earl of Mar

[edit] Break with the Boyds

Conflict broke out between James and the Boyd family following the marriage. Robert and Thomas Boyd (with Princess Mary) were out of the country involved in diplomacy when their regime was overthrown. Mary's marriage was later declared void in 1473. The family of Sir Alexander Boyd was executed by James in 1469.

[edit] First alliance and then war with England

James's policies during the 1470s revolved primarily around ambitious continental schemes for territorial expansion, and alliance with England. Between 1471 and 1473 he suggested annexations or invasions of Brittany, Saintonge and Guelders. These unrealistic aims resulted in parliamentary criticism, especially since the king was reluctant to deal with the more humdrum business of administering justice at home.
In 1474 a marriage alliance was agreed with Edward IV of England, by which the future James IV of Scotland was to marry Princess Cecily of York, daughter of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville. It might have been a sensible move for Scotland, but it went against the traditional enmity of the two countries dating back to the reign of Robert I and the Wars of Independence, not to mention the vested interests of the border nobility. The alliance, therefore (and the taxes raised to pay for the marriage) was at least one of the reasons why the king was unpopular by 1479.
Also during the 1470s conflict developed between the king and his two brothers, Alexander, Duke of Albany and John, Earl of Mar. Mar died suspiciously in Edinburgh in 1480 and his estates were forfeited and possibly given to a royal favourite, Robert Cochrane. Albany fled to France in 1479, accused of treason and breaking the alliance with England.
But by 1479 the alliance was collapsing, and war with England existed on an intermittent level in 1480–1482. In 1482 Edward launched a full-scale invasion, led by the Duke of Gloucester, the future Richard III, and including the Duke of Albany, styled "Alexander IV", as part of the invasion party. James, in attempting to lead his subjects against the invasion, was arrested by a group of disaffected nobles, at Lauder Bridge in July 1482. It has been suggested that the nobles were already in league with Albany. The king was imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle, and a new regime, led by 'lieutenant-general' Albany, became established during the autumn of 1482. Meanwhile the English army, unable to take Edinburgh Castle, ran out of money and returned to England, having taken Berwick-upon-Tweed for the last time.

James was able to regain power, buying off members of Albany government, so that by the December 1482 Parliament Albany's government was collapsing. In particular his attempt to claim the vacant earldom of Mar led to the intervention of the powerful George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly on the king's side.
In January 1483 Albany fled to his estates at Dunbar. The death of his patron, Edward IV, on 9 April, left Albany in a weak position, and he fled over the border to England. He remained there until 1484, when he launched another abortive invasion at Lochmaben. Another attempted return has been argued to have occurred in 1485, when (admittedly suspect) accounts suggest he escaped from Edinburgh Castle on a rope made of sheets. Certainly his right-hand man, James Liddale of Halkerston, was arrested and executed around that time. Albany was killed in a joust in Paris later that year.

Despite his lucky escape in 1482, when he easily could have been murdered or executed in an attempt to bring his son to the throne, during the 1480s James did not reform his behaviour. Obsessive attempts to secure alliance with England continued, although they made little sense given the prevailing politics. He continued to favour a group of 'familiars', unpopular with the more powerful magnates. He refused to travel for the implementation of justice, and remained invariably resident in Edinburgh. He was also estranged from his wife, Margaret of Denmark, who lived in Stirling, and increasingly his eldest son. Instead he favoured his second son.
In January 1488, in Parliament, James tried to gain supporters by making his second son Duke of Ross, and making four Lairds full Lords of Parliament. These allies were; John Drummond of Cargill, made Lord Drummond; Robert Crichton of Sanquhar, made Lord Sanquhar; John Hay of Yester, made Lord Hay of Yester; and the Knight William Ruthven, made Lord Ruthven. But opposition to James was lead by the Earls of Angus and Argyll, and the Home and Hepburn families. His eldest son and heir, the future James IV, was delivered into the hands of the rebels by Schaw of Sauchie on 2 February 1488. The Prince became the figurehead of the opposition party, perhaps reluctantly, or perhaps provoked by the favouritism given to his younger brother. Matters came to a head on 11 June 1488 when the King faced the army raised by the disaffected nobles and many former councillors near Stirling, at the Battle of Sauchieburn, and was defeated and killed.^[2]
Persistent legends, based on the highly coloured and unreliable accounts of 16th century chroniclers such as Adam Abell, Robert Lindsay of Pitscottie, John Leslie and George Buchanan, claim that James III was assassinated at Milltown,^[3] near Bannockburn, soon after the battle. There is no contemporary evidence to support this account, nor the allegation that he fled the battle, nor the tale that his assassin impersonated a priest in order to approach James.
A story is told that, on the eve of the Battle of Sauchieburn, Sir David Lindsay, son of Sir John, Lord Lindsay of the Byres, presented James III with a "great grey horse" that would carry him faster than any other horse into or away from the battle. Unfortunately, the horse threw the king during the battle, and James III was either killed in the fall, or was finished off by enemy soldiers.
Whatever his other faults, James does not seem to have been a coward nor (as Pitscottie claimed) did he avoid conflict or 'manly pursuits'. He actively pursued military conflict in 1482 and 1488 with disastrous results, and frequently proposed unrealistic schemes to take armies to the continent. It is most likely that he was killed in the heat of battle. James is buried at Cambuskenneth Abbey.

James III has been depicted in historical novels and short stories. They include:

• Price of a Princess (1994) by Nigel Tranter. The book takes place in the years 1465–1469. The main character is Mary Stewart, Countess of Arran, a sister of James III. She is depicted joining her husband Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran in a mission to the court of Christian I of Denmark. The two negotiate the ceeding of Orkney and Shetland from the Kalmar Union to the Kingdom of Scotland.^[4]
• Lord in Waiting (1994) by Nigel Tranter. The book takes place in the years 1474–1488. It covers events of the reign of James III, seen from the perspective of "John, Lord of Douglas".^[5] James III is depicted influenced by one William Sheves, the court astrologer and alchemist. Douglas would rather have Mary Stewart (see above) on the throne.^[6]
• The Admiral (2001) by Nigel Tranter. The book takes place in the years 1480–1530. It covers the career of Andrew Wood of Largo and the formation of the Royal Scots Navy. James III is depicted favoring Wood with the title of Lord High Admiral of Scotland.^[4]

Margaret of Denmark (23 June 1456 – before 14 July 1486) was the Queen Consort of Scotland from 1469 to 1486 as the wife of King James III of Scotland. She was the daughter of King Christian I of Denmark (1448–1481), Norway (1450–1481), and Sweden (1457–1464), and his wife Dorothea of Brandenburg. The future King James IV of Scotland was her eldest son.

She was betrothed to James of Scotland in 1460. The marriage was arranged by recommendation of the king of France to end the feud (1426–60) between Denmark and Scotland about the taxation of the Hebrides islands. In July 1469 (at age 13), at Holyrood Abbey, she married James III, King of Scots (1460–88). Her father, King Christian I of Denmark and also of Norway, agreed on a considerable dowry to her. He, however, was in need of cash, so the islands of Orkney and Shetland, Norwegian crown possessions, were pledged as security until the dowry was to be paid.
William Sinclair, 1st Earl of Caithness was at that time the Norse Earl of Orkney, who was made in 1473 to exchange his Orkney fief to castle Ravenscraig, so the Scottish throne took the earl's rights in the islands too.
This marriage produced three children:

• James IV (17 March 1473 – 9 September 1513)
• James Stewart, Duke of Ross (March 1476 - January 1504), and
• John Stewart, Earl of Mar (December 1479 - 1503).

Margaret became a popular queen in Scotland, and was described as beautiful, gentle, and sensible^[1] A story given by her son claims that Margaret was killed by a poison given to her by Ramsay, leader of one of the political factions^[1] However, as Ramsay was favoured by the royal family also after the death of the queen, this is considered doubtful and may have been slander ^[1]
She died at Stirling Castle and is buried in Cambuskenneth Abbey.

Her great-great-grandson James VI of Scotland married another princess of her dynasty, Anne of Denmark. They became ancestors of all the future monarchs of England and Scotland.
She was responsible for introducing the bloodline of England's first Danish monarch King Sweyn Forkbeard into the Scottish Royal blood line, and after James VI of Scotland ascended to the English throne in 1603, into the English royal bloodline as well.
